Kohler-SDMO, the generator manufacturer from France, acquired by the American company Kohler in 2005, has completed its planned brand transition, officially becoming Kohler.
Founded in 1966 in Brest, France, SDMO became Kohler-SDMO in 2016 to reflect its role in the global Kohler network. With the final alignment to the Kohler brand, the company announced that it can accelerate its development in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
Kohler Power Systems operations in EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) will continue to be based in France, where the Brest plant recently received a $6 million investment to expand production, testing, and storage facilities.
“We will continue to deliver our global expertise from our historic home in the Brittany region,” said Lénaïk Andrieux, General Manager of Kohler Power Systems EMEA. “Over the past 17 years, we have successfully integrated operations and are capable of providing a global approach, including services and maintenance.
“Our name change confirms our deep commitment to our customers and the ongoing investment in our people, products, and processes in EMEA. Most importantly, our deep commitment to the region, through investments in the economy and the community, remains unchanged.”
Kohler stated that completing the brand transition in EMEA helps support global ambitions and the commitment to a sustainable future. This includes the recent announcement of the compatibility of HVO with Kohler generator sets, providing up to 90% carbon-neutral critical power.
With the name change from Kohler-SDMO to Kohler, there will also be a transition from the blue color of the generators to beige.
Kohler Power Systems EMEA designs, manufactures, and installs generators up to 4 MW for use in a wide range of applications, including industry, healthcare, construction, and the rapidly expanding data center market.
Kohler, the American manufacturer of engines and generators, is one of the most significant players in the global generator market. The company is known for producing the first modern electric generator over a century ago in 1918. Over the last 100 years, Kohler has consistently invested in innovation and expanding production capabilities. Global expansion has been a natural step.
